Steve Sauer joined us in September 2011 as the Director of Music. A cradle Catholic, Steve graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School and went on to earn his B.A. in Communication Studies, with a minor in Journalism, at West Chester University. Steve has played the organ since 3rd grade where the teachers at St. Anne’s School allowed him to play at parish funerals. Over the weekends he started playing the organ for the chapel at St. Joseph’s hospital. While attending LCHS, he was in the core group of musicians that led the student body in worship. Also through high school and college, Steve was the full-time organist at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lancaster. Even though communication was the focus of his study at West Chester University, music has been a constant throughout his life. He writes scripts for a nationally syndicated radio program about music, and he contributes his musical talents to several groups near Lancaster.
His position at St. Philip’s requires him to direct the Adult Choir, play at four Masses over the weekend, coordinate and select the songs for the Liturgies, and be an integral part in introducing new music. Additionally, he provides support for all other Liturgies throughout the year such as First Penance and Communion, Confirmation, Forty Hours Eucharistic Devotions, Healing Services, funerals, and weddings.
Steve is always on the lookout for other singers and musicians wishing to be involved in worship. He welcomes feedback on hymn selections and other aspects of liturgical music. He can be reached by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or by phone at (717) 287-2166, ext. 109.
